This is our fourth iteration of our Coffee Vodka and we are again using Pinnacle coffee beans who are located in the Coromandel. We chose their medium single origin arabica bean grown in Vietnam.
The first two versions we distilled were in your face coffee flavours with no subtlety, but with these beans we wanted to try and keep their natural flavours.
How to do this took some thought, but in the end, we went the simplest route - five double espressos tipped directly into the iStill and mixed with the 95.7% Grain Neutral Spirit that had already been distilled three times. Then distilled for a fourth time.
This one is quite a surprise, there is no bitterness at all and the Pinnacle Coffee tasting notes describe natural orange, caramel and honey and we think this comes through in the Vodka. It is also very smooth.
Best consumed straight or with ice.
